“Do you teach other photographers?”
“I want to do what YOU do. Can you mentor me?”
“what kind of internships do you offer?”
“How caN I learn about business from you?”
I love getting emails like this.
Every day, I receive several emails from aspiring photographers asking how they can build a career like mine. I absolutely love this industry and I remember what it was like to be in your shoes, hungry for guidance and clarity. But as a full-time wedding photographer who also covers dozens of corporate events Monday through Friday, my schedule is built around serving my clients at the highest level.
That’s why I’ve created two structured ways for photographers to learn directly from me. These options allow me to dedicate focused, intentional time to mentoring you — without taking away from the couples and companies who trust me with their most important moments.
One-off Strategy Calls
Annual Mentorships
Both are designed to give you not just advice, but a proven roadmap from someone who actively works in both luxury weddings and national corporate media every single week. But first….. are you the right fit for a strategy session or mentorship with me?

Pricing & Packages – Structure your rates for profit and sustainability, not just “bookings at any cost.”
Lead Generation – Discover how to consistently attract couples who value artistry and service over discounts.
Workflow & Client Experience – Streamline your systems so you deliver not just photos, but an unforgettable experience from start to finish.
You’ll leave with actionable strategies, clear direction, and a full Zoom recording of our call so you can revisit every recommendation.

🎓 The Wedding Photographer Mentorship
…Or maybe a full-on annual internship is right for you.
Here’s what some of my previous students said:
“I’m leaving this internship not only with stronger and more defined skills with my camera, but also with a deeper understanding on how to approach photography as both an art form and in a business format. I love how we not only worked with the camera but a had an introduction to learning photo editing skills too. Robert has truly set me up for success, and I’m incredibly grateful for his time and effort he invested in me. Now I feel I feel more prepared and confident to pursue photography on my own!”
- Katelyn
“I engaged Robert to teach me the basics of OCF and found him to be a patient and thorough instructor. Highly recommend if you are looking for education or practical instruction.”

Here’s what one of my recent interns WROTE about her Internship experience:
“Over the course of a six-week period, I had the privilege of working with Robert Burns as my photography mentor.
From the very beginning, Robert was incredibly open and supportive, welcoming me into his workflow. I was ecstatic that he was willing to take me under his wing for an internship. My first impression of him was over a Zoom call. He was professional and energetic. What stood out to me immediately was how positive and open-minded he was, he made sure the schedule he had made also aligned with what I wanted to learn and how I wanted to grow in photography. Robert valued my ideas and prepared a detailed week-by-week outline that covered everything from technical camera work to hands-on practice in real-world environments. While the structure was thorough, he was also was very flexible, encouraging me to voice my interests and letting the sessions evolve based on my progress or specific goals that I had in mind. This combination of structure and adaptability made the experience feel more fun and personalized compared to a traditional photography class that I had taken in college.
Here are 4 spotlights I want to share from my internship that were the most impactful:
Our first session focused on getting me familiarized with his gear. Robert walked me through his equipment and told me the name and function of each item. Once we wrapped that part up, he made suggestions on what I should consider adding to my own photography “toolbox” such as a tripod, reflector, and extra batteries. Robert and I sat down to discuss my 6-week outline and then he emphasized the importance of understanding the exposure triangle, which became the core of my foundation for operating my manual setting on my camera. Each week, we worked on the exposure triangle and made sure I had a firm foundation by practicing how these settings balance each other according to subject and lighting in different shooting scenarios. With every session, I became more comfortable navigating my manual camera settings.
“Now I feel I feel more prepared and confident to pursue photography on my own!”
The first real practice shoot was when we set up Robert’s equipment for head shots. I practiced portrait photography using natural and artificial light with Robert as my model. I set up the tripod with my camera on it. This shoot really helped me grasp the basics of lighting and how to create balanced, professional-looking portraits working with the equipment we had. We continued to build on these skills at a steady pace.
Robert had scheduled a wedding shoot for my first real world experience to assist and shadow him. I came fully prepared knowing the equipment we had to use and set up. This was a great way to introduce me into working with clients in a real world setting and to observe him in action with the camera. That was truly a great learning experience and an amazing opportunity. Watching how he interacted with clients, managed equipment, adapted to changing environments, and captured important moments was both inspiring and informative for me. I learned a lot just by observing his professionalism while working with people at the wedding and his use of equipment.
In another session, I had suggested product photography. I brought a watch and a purse. Robert helped me stage and photograph them using controlled lighting. During this shoot, I was introduced to a setting called white balance, a feature I hadn’t previously explored on my camera. Learning how to adjust it gave me greater control over the accuracy in my photos along with pairing it with the exposure triangle. During this shoot, I also picked up practical tips like setting a short timer to prevent camera shakes when you have a low shutter speed.
Our final session was the most rewarding and inspiring to me! All the skills I had worked on, built up for me to achieve this movement. Robert had lined up a model for me to have a low-pressure photo shoot in the backyard. When the model couldn’t make it, Robert jumped in and modeled for me! He turned the situation into another learning opportunity which was one of the most beneficial sessions I had over the 6 weeks. He coached me on how to give clear, confident direction to the models, and reminding me that being vocal and assertive is an important part of making people feel comfortable and produce the best photo results. This shoot was a great reflection of Robert’s mentoring style—supportive, encouraging, and hands-on. He gave me the freedom to experiment with the flash on my camera and use the reflector, which allowed me to explore how different camera settings affected the pictures.
Looking back on the internship, it has equipped me with far more than just technical knowledge. Robert created a learning space where I felt supported, challenged, and inspired for perusing photography as a career. His passion for photography and his energy is contagious in the best way possible! I’m leaving this internship not only with stronger and more defined skills with my camera, but also with a deeper understanding on how to approach photography as both an art form and in a business format. I love how we not only worked with the camera but a had an introduction to learning photo editing skills too. Robert has truly set me up for success, and I’m incredibly grateful for his time and effort he invested in me. Now I feel I feel more prepared and confident to pursue photography on my own!
Thank you Robert!!”

I am sure this all sounds awesome, but I need to be the one to tell you:
If you’re not serious, don’t bother.
First off, let’s make sure the right people are here.
I’ll be blunt: I’m not the right mentor or educator for everyone.
I am very direct, and what I do WORKS. My business generates well over six-figures every single year, and has for the last six years running.
After 15 years as a photographer, I can tell you this with certainty — photographers are often know-it-alls. I don’t claim to know everything about photography, but I do know how to run a profitable, successful photography business.
Here’s what I can do for you:
Teach you how to properly structure your business from day one.
Show you how to set profitable pricing that attracts the right clients.
Help you craft a brand that positions you as an expert, not a commodity.
Audit your website, portfolio, and social media with clear, actionable feedback.
Walk you through how to market yourself in a way that brings consistent inquiries.
Teach you client communication strategies that turn inquiries into bookings.
Show you how to deliver a client experience that creates repeat and referral business.
Train you on efficient workflows for editing, delivery, and client management.
Pull back the curtain on how I run weddings, corporate events, and studio sessions.
Give you scripts, templates, and systems I actually use in my business.
Hold you accountable with direct, no-fluff feedback.
Share my network of tools, apps, and best practices so you don’t waste time guessing.
Here’s what I can’t do for you:
I can’t make you show up — you’ve got to be willing to do the work.
I can’t force you to take initiative — motivation has to come from you.
I can’t give you “overnight success” — real growth takes time and consistency.
I can’t guarantee bookings — I can only show you how to earn them.
I can’t hold your hand every step of the way — you need to learn independence.
I can’t teach passion — if you don’t love photography, this won’t stick.
I can’t chase you down to implement what I tell you — that’s on you.
I can’t fix laziness, lack of discipline, or bad attitude.
I can’t make your friends and family support your dream — you need to prove it.
I can’t give you “secret shortcuts” — success comes from execution, not hacks.
I can’t create a vision for you — I can only help sharpen the one you bring.
I can’t want it more than you do — your drive has to match your goals.
If you’re looking for easy answers, free handouts, or someone to coddle you, I’m not your mentor.
But if you want the truth, a proven roadmap, and accountability from someone who’s built a thriving photography business across both weddings and corporate events, then we’ll work well together.
